Open a new chapter in your story of inspired care as a Manager of the Sterile Processing Department at UF Health Shands Hospital, Florida’s premier hospital, located in Gainesville, Florida.
In this full-time supervisory role, you will have a highly visible and impactful role managing the operations of our 24/7 Sterile Processing Department. This opportunity will allow you to:
• Maintain departmental compliance with policy and procedures for the processing of sterile supplies used in ORs, ICUs and EDs in accordance with The Joint Commission, AAMI, CDD, CAORN, HRS and other governing body regulations.
• Coordinate workflow and performance assessments with all applicable serviced departments to help improve the quality of work and promote positive intradepartmental relationships.
• Assess work and professional performance of reporting staff, including supervisors, sterile processing technicians, OR liaisons and surgical technicians.
• Oversee and execute ongoing training programs for all sterile processing staff with the assistance of supervisors.
• Promote ongoing training and staff education with in-service events and continued education programs.
• Manage performance expectations to achieve optimal customer and patient service and to achieve goals for the department and its employees.
Successful candidates should have the following education, training and skills for this position:
• Candidates should be an RN, Certified Operating Room Technician or Certified Central Processing Technician.
• Associate’s degree in nursing, an allied health field or business administration required (significant experience may substitute for degree). Bachelor's degree strongly preferred.
• CSPDM or CHL certification is strongly preferred. If not certified, certification will be required within one (1) year of eligibility.
• Must have at least five years of progressive management experience in a large hospital or health care system. Central sterile management experience preferred.
• Must have knowledge of basic principles of accounting and economics, as well as principles of microbiology, sterilization and aseptic techniques, surgical techniques, instrumentation and equipment, and inventory control resources in sterilization technology.
• Knowledge of hazardous materials-handling and infection prevention and a strong understanding of the industry standards as stated by The Joint Commission, AMMI, AORN, CDC and OSHA (29 CFR 1910.103) required.
• Candidate must have the ability to create and maintain collaborative relationships with others on the hospital team, including physicians, nursing and operations staff.
• Must possess strong computer skills and be proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written with excellent interpersonal skills.
• Must have the ability to problem solve, deal with conflict, and find resolutions in a fast-paced and challenging environment.

Job Description:
This Sterile Processing Technician will be responsible for:
Receiving, sorting, cleaning and decontaminating soiled reusable instruments, equipment and materials following manufacturer’s instructions. Manually recording items/materials received in department logs. Loading, operating, and emptying cleaning and decontamination equipment
Inspecting, preparing and sterilizing surgical instruments and other materials. Assembling trays and packets of instruments, medical supplies for surgical procedures according to standardized content lists and manufacturers guidelines. Loading and operating sterilizers, programming settings and monitors temperature and other critical readings during run cycle
May be asked to assume responsibility for leadership in the department in the absence of and/or in conjunction with CPD Manager. Plans, organizes and oversees daily operations. Monitoring workflow and prioritizing work assignments to meet established schedules and clinical requirements. Responding to customer requests and resolving problems as needed
May be assigned the charge role in the department. Managing the department work environment per established policy and procedures. Insuring safety of all personnel on duty. Prioritizing work production based on changing needs. Assessing, planning and implementing shift activities. Communicating and collaborating with shift personnel, department managers, OR staff and other personnel. Ensuring all required documentation is completed and accurate. Using all available resources to assist with problem solving and decision making. Trouble shooting and problem solving daily
To qualify, you must have:
A high school degree or GED equivalent.
Prior experience with Sterile Processing/Central Processing preferred.
Certification of Central Processing Technician is strongly preferred.
A strong knowledge of instrumentation and power surgical instruments.
Strong customer service and communication skills to develop working relationships with staff.
Strong computer and problem-solving skills.
The ability to work independently and as a team player.
Flexibility and the willingness to change assignments due to department needs.
Basic record keeping skills, and the ability to read and write legibly.
